Tepezza® Infusion Therapy for Thyroid Eye Disease

Thyroid eye disease (TED), also known as Graves' ophthalmopathy or Graves' eye disease, is an autoimmune condition that primarily affects the eyes, causing a range of uncomfortable symptoms. If you or your patient has been diagnosed with thyroid eye disease, Tepezza® infusion therapy is a highly effective treatment with a low risk of side effects. At CPS Infusion, we offer Tepezza® infusion therapy for thyroid eye disease at all of our conveniently located centers in the greater Atlanta, GA, area.

What Is Thyroid Eye Disease?

Thyroid eye disease is often associated with Graves' disease, an autoimmune thyroid disorder that leads to overproduction of thyroid hormone. This causes the immune system to mistakenly target and attack the tissues around the eyes.

Diagnosing Thyroid Eye Disease

Bulging eyes, swelling of the eyelids, eye redness and pain, difficulty moving the eyes, double vision, sensitivity to light, dry eyes, and excessive tearing are all symptoms that eye specialists look for when diagnosing thyroid eye disease. In addition to a physical test and eye exam, the eye doctor may take eyelid measurements, an ultrasound of the eyes, computed tomography imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging.

Treating Thyroid Eye Disease

Eye doctors work with the patient’s endocrinologist and primary care physician to develop the best treatment plan for the patient’s unique needs. When eye drops, medications, and supplements don’t offer good results for thyroid eye disease, Tepezza® infusion therapy can be an excellent option. Tepezza® (teprotumumab-trbw) is the first and only FDA-approved medication used to treat thyroid eye disease.

How Tepezza® Works

Tepezza® contains thyroid stimulating hormone receptors (TSHR) and insulin growth-like factor 1 receptors (IGFR-1). These mediators bind to the receptors in the tissues with cells behind the eyes, preventing them from staying active so they don’t cause inflammation of the muscles and fat in and around the eyes.

What to Expect?

  1. When you come to CPS Infusion, we will take you to one of our comfortable treatment rooms.
